Blog 3 - My Dream Job

Imagen
Hello, dear students. Hoping you are enjoying yourselves this weekend; in today’s blog I will talk about my dream job. Despite the fact that I already enjoy teaching here at the University of Chile, I had considered the idea of going to other countries where teachers are actually fairly paid and with better working conditions. As I said before, one of my main dreams was to go to China because teachers are better paid there and being a teacher is considered an honorable profession. Since China provides many opportunities for English teachers in terms of workplace (you can teach at kindergarten, school, university level if you have the appropriate certificates), I would like to work at a university or a language academia.   For this, I surely will need to develop my soft skills in terms of effective communication with my students, colleagues, and administrative personnel. Also, I consider open-mindedness an essential skill since I will have to adapt to a whole new cul...

Blog 2 - The best holidays I ever had

Hello, dear students. How are you today? In this blog’s session, I will talk about one of the best holidays I have ever had. If I had known that my best vacations would be in a foreign country, I would have laughed so hard because, for as long as I can remember, traveling on a plane to another country had been 2 of my biggest fears.   A lot of people scared me with stories about being deported, losing the passport and being detained at the custom office of an airport; although I acknowledge that it’s really faster to travel on a plane than a car, if you face an accident on a plane, it will have dramatic consequences. Despite this, last year I decided to travel to México in order to break up with a Mexican ex-girlfriend. Yeah, I know, it is a very random and maybe a very stupid reason to travel abroad but hey, whatever takes you to travel abroad, go for it. I arrived at this beautiful country on Christmas 2022, and I left this amazing nation on February 14 th , 20...

Blog 1 - A country I would like to visit

Blog 1 - A country I would like to visit Hello dear students. I hope you are having a good day. Today, in this first blog session, I will talk about a country I would like to visit. Before my travel to Mexico this year, I was quite skeptical of traveling abroad: I always thought it was a very expensive and luxurious experience that I, an English teacher, would never get to live unless I considered the idea of studying abroad. Despite this mindset, I have been interested in working and living in China. Yes, you read it correctly: your English teacher wants to cross the Pacific Ocean to teach English and live in a whole different culture. At the beginning, my first approaches to this economic power were related to learning a new language: since I had realized that knowing English was no longer an advantage regarding my work field, I decided to study Mandarin Chinese. Oh god, it was such a mind-blowing experience. This language has 4 tones that are very distinguishab...
